Anita came to South Africa in 2002 after running a very successful
branch of the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy in London, UK for 5 years.
Although originally trained as a science teacher, she soon realized her flair
for the creative arts and retrained in drama. She performed in many fringe
theatres in and around London and also in Nairobi, Kenya where she lived
for 3 years. Anita also comes from a theatrical family. Her sister designed
sets for the highly prestigious Young and Old Vic theatres in London and her brother Andy
Serkis is an up and coming actor who’s latest roles include the infamous Gollum in Lord of
the Rings and more recently King Kong.
It was her love of Africa that brought Anita back to South Africa. Since opening
up the Johannesburg Academy she now has one of the largest branch in South Africa with
700 students attending classes in 11 different areas of Johannesburg. The Academy is now
well established and is well known by the local casting directors. Most of Anita's students
are also registered with her own casting agency TAKE TEN Casting and many children have
